When you love someone

When you love someone, you sometimes watch them sleep. Peering over and straining your ears until you can hear them breathing. A sigh of relief.

When you love someone, you tell them, and you remind them to drive safely every time they leave the house. You think to yourself, please don’t let this be the day you don’t come back from your trip.

Sometimes you ride along with them, so if they were to face a tragic accident, you’ll be there to protect them or meet their same fate.

When you love someone, stories of people losing their partner shatters your heart into a million tiny pieces until you’re nothing but a puddle of despair. And thinking of your world without them makes you weep.

When you love someone, you learn new ways to appreciate them, show up for them, make them laugh and feel loved because life is too short not to.

When you love someone, you carry them with you. They’re in your mannerisms, your jokes, your food preferences, favorite clothes, your dreams. Their name falls from your mouth like it’s your favorite word. They’re weaved into all of your stories and memories.

When you love someone, you want to be better and healthier so you can live the longest possible life together. You start hoping that there’s a great beyond or maybe reincarnation, so you can exist together again someday.
