Playbook by Rebecca Jenshak

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Spice: 🌶️

The last thing Lo expects to find in her P.O. box is a used pair of panties, but whoever had the box before her never set up mail forwarding. Annoyed by the endless mail leaving no room for her packages, she hears someone at the bar say the mysterious name that’s been on her mail, she plans to give him a piece of her mind. Yet, somehow she ends up fake dating Brogan Six, the Mavericks’ charming new rookie.

This book was a random find, I’ll admit. I don’t even remember how it ended up on my shelf, but I figured I’d see what all the sports romance hype was about. Unfortunately, it did disappoint.

Brogan Six can easily be described as a whore and he doesn’t quit his playboy behavior until a little ways into the book, which is a little meh in my opinion. But then it goes full on INSTAlove and gives you whiplash. Personally, I just need a little more buildup, you know? Give me some tension, make me understand why they’re so into each other.

I think how they met is unique, but that might be the only thing that really stands out to me, even though it hasn’t been too long since I read this story.

Tropes/What to Expect:

  • Fake dating

  • Sports romance (NFL player)

  • ASL representation

  • Found family

  • Grumpy sunshine

The different events throughout the story line were cute and Brogan Six ends up being sort of cute in the end, so there’s definitely some positives. It just falls in the “ok” category for me. If you like NFL players and are looking for an easy read with a bit of spice, check it out! You might like this one more than me. But if you like Hockey and sweeter men, I’d recommend The Fake Out by Stephanie Archer instead.
